There are numerous online forums out there now which deal in all sorts of niches. Many online marketers are using these forums effectively to market their products or services.

Once you have found your forum dealing in your niche, the next thing you should do is to think of ways to use this platform to market your products. Be a marketer and not a spammer, which can lead you to trouble. Most online forums do not allow blatant advertisements from their participants. So, if you do, you will get your posts deleted and maybe even banned from participating in that forum.

So how do you market your products then if you cannot advertise? What you need to do is use a little bit of ingenuity. Use a little networking skill and start building rapport with fellow participants. Answer any questions that needed answering. Build your presence slowly but surely. Be the market expert. Do not push your products at all. Just build your answers around your product, making your product part of their solution.

For example, if you sell books on golf, and you find a great golf forum, starting a new thread about how fantastic your book is, or even offering information from your book, without first being asked to, may result in your posts being deleted and your account terminated. That is the result of blatant advertising.

Instead, take a quieter role on all golf forums, and wait patiently for a participant to pose a question about a golf problem that you can solve through the information in your golf book. You’ll then be the guru of golf for offering such excellent advice. Do this for the next three to four weeks first, without putting a link to your signature. Finally, once you are considered an expert in your chosen niche, only then can you put your link to your website as part of your signature.

In a nutshell, only market to your forum if it is in answering a question posted by another participant. This way, you are not breaking any rules of the forum, and people look up to you as the provider of solutions to their problems, the expert in that field. The result? A lasting link to your website by way of the many forum participants linking to you.
