To illustrate, suppose you browse a golf website. You will see ads for golf-related products or services, eg golf balls, golf clubs, golf courses, etc. Now, when you click on either of these advertisements, the website owner will get some money from Google Adsense. Google gets the money to pay the website owner for advertising this ad from the golf advertisers themselves, who hope that you will buy their products/ services when you click on the ad.
