Now that you realize that you need a good opt-in list, you have finally decided that you must have one of your own. You then build your list, hoping profits will come in no time at all with your articles to your list, recommending that affiliate product you swear by.

But the unthinkable happens. Only a small percentage buys from you. You’re not raking in the big bugs you are expecting. What is going on here?

What could have gone wrong? Why have others succeeded when you have failed?

Perhaps the most common mistake you did was that you dived straight into it. You have chosen a topic that you think is popular and would make you money. This is not the case; just because you wrote to people from your list does not mean that they are going to buy from you.

Here are 3 ways you can do to build a profitable opt-in list.

If you have failed before, do not despair. At least you have a list to rejuvenate your failed venture. For those who are just starting, take heed and practise these three ways so that you do not make that mistake.

1. Get your customers to trust you and your products first.

Just because you have your own opt-in list does not make you a credible expert and a believable seller to your list. Put many articles on your website first before you start an opt-in list. Write more about the topic you have chosen in your website. Add a forum page in your website so you know more about your visitors and their wants and needs. Address those wants and needs. Start a FAQs page in your website. Join forums for similar topics from other sites as well. Provide expert answers and recommendations.

When you feel the time is right, start your own opt-in list. You can even invite forum users from other sites to join your list. Do not be forceful. Make friends first then list. Put up a link to your site so that they may be able to see what your website is all about.

Money will come soon enough when your subscribers believe and trust you. People only want something of value for the money they are parting with. They won’t buy from you unless they trust that what you are selling them is of value at all.

2. Research on the product or service first.

Find out what’s hot and what’s not before you start selling. Invest your time and effort on the product you are selling so that you can give your subscribers value-added service such as free information, newsletters and promotional material.

3. Make friends with other opt-in list users.

This is beneficial to all parties, especially to you if the other opt-in list user is someone who is already successful. These are people who have the experience in this venture that you can learn and model from.

Remember, success leaves traces. Experienced opt-in list users will be able to tell you what to do and what not to do because they have gone through it. There are many things to avoid and these people will be able to tell you which ones.

Building a profitable opt-in list don’t just happen overnight. There are many preparations to do first. Opt-in lists are built from scratch. As your list grows, you should also maintain the quality of your list. Keep it organized and manageable. Get or hire help if need be, just make sure that your subscribers are happy and satisfied and they will be happy to buy from you, not just once, but always.
